A Table in the Tarn: Living, Eating and Cooking in&hellip by Orlando Murrin
4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book, 7 Sep 2010
A review by my wife (more of a woman's book I think).
A beautifully presented book - photographs, typeface - all in 'designer' class. The recipes are also worth trying and easy to follow.
A book about lovely people in a lovely place. Why are they selling it?
I await the next book of their new venture.

This a beautifully written autobiography describing life at the beginning of the 20th century. It draws a vivid picture of a boy growing up under the rule of an autocratic and egotistical father who drags his family around the country to escape the bailiffs. Anyone who lived in South London during the last war will be struck by the similarities in the latter part of the book, with Zeppelins replacing Doodlebugs.

This is a funny, and sometimes touching, account of one man's life as experienced through his love of cycling. It should be enjoyed by the occasional (and sometimes lapsed) cyclist as well as by the enthusiastist and also paints an authentic picture of South London and its environs at the time.
