Making Babies: Stumbling into Motherhood by Anne Enright
1.0 out of 5 stars Rambling guff, 23 Mar 2014
Rambling guff really, no insight, not even any funny stories, just the inane ramblings of a new mother that gets nowhere slowly.

Overlong and some ideas poorly formed here, but still an enjoyable read. The later, Garden of Evening Mists, is a better book.

Oh dear. I'd read a piece in the Guardian that made this book sound interesting, but it really is dreadful, virtually unreadable. Pretentious, badly written, meandering, implausible, and frankly you don't really care what happens to any of the characters as they're so two-dimensional and lame. A shame as I wanted to like a book from a young feminist, but really she's trying too hard - and if she wins any points in terms of making some post-feminism point, she more than loses them in the turgid, banal codswallop she churns out on the page. Avoid this like the plague and go and read Catlin Moran instead.
