The notable and great bands of the late 80s / early 90s - we're talking The Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Gish-era Smashing Pumpkins and (especially) Dinosaur Jr loom large over this record. But despite all of the clearly identifiable reference points, Yuck brings their influences together to create something which feels fresh.
Perhaps it's due to the fact that it's 20-somethings playing this type of music again, rather than ageing indie rockers, or perhaps it's as simple as great song-writing. I would say that the bravely-titled 'Suck' is the closest thing to a duff track, but even that is catchy and has some lovely chord changes.
