I took a while to get into this book, but once smitten I loved it. In my family I have band members, and the stories about the band really rang true. The episodes where they had to dress up had me laughing out loud. The characters were good and rang true. I particularly loved Uncle Dudley and Auntie Magsie and their canal boat. The dog had character too! A nice book..........

I have had this sitting on my shelf for a few months, waiting to find time to read such a big book. But, what a story and don't be afraid of the length as you'll finish it in no time. It's such a demanding story. I hadn't been aware that the first part was set in New Zealand, and having been to this particular part of the world and with friends still there, it was all the more interesting. The gist of the book contains a lot of legal processes all the more interesting though. There were many OOOhs and AAAhs when the story took a twist and turn. I couldn't believe there would be a happy ending, and Susan Lewis keeps you guessing all the time. I love her books and can't wait to read… Read more
A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen
A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen
5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-warming story, 16 Mar 2014
This was the choice at our Book Club, and even though I'm not a cat person, I loved this gentle story. James has had a hard life and so it appears has Bob. They attach themselves to one another and support each other. James isn't sure about commitment as it's never been in his world before. His family weren't too supportive and love has been missing from his life. What was so nice to me was that the book was actually written by James himself (probably with a little help!) so it gave it all the more poignancy. Cats usually have long lives, and I hope James & Bob spend many more happy years together.
