Fangio: The Life Behind the Legend by Gerald Donaldson

"Fangio: the Life Behind The Legend" is a superb book. It explains the life of five time Formula 1 world champion Fangio and includes all his key Formula 1 races especially Germany 1957 but delves into more than that including the fact he broke his neck in 1952 and won 4 of his 5 world titles with the damage to his neck.

It also rekindles great races before he entered Formula 1, his relationship with his partner Beta for 20 years, his kidnaping by the Fidel Castro in 1958.

In short, a detailed and truly fascinating insight into a remarkable legend.
Jim Clark: A Photographic Portrait by Quentin Spurring
The bravery of Jim Clark during the most dangerous of eras on Formula 1 is remarkable including an incident while leading a race when asphalt crumpled off the track and destroyed his safety goggles/ glasses and he replaced it mid race and completed a race with blood all over his face and came home a superb third position.

One of my favourite three drivers of all time, Ayrton Senna and Juan Manuel Fangio are the only other two who I personally rate in the same league as Jim Clark. The book has stunning photographs in both colour and Black and White and similar to "Ayrton Senna: Through My Eye" captures the speed of Formula 1 racing beautifully.

A cracking film. Although it is not necessarily completely historically accurate as has been advised by some other reviewers and I agree with them on this point with the fact that actually both Hunt and Lauda didn't want to race at Germany in August 1976.

However, the performances of Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt and particularly Daniel Bruhl is Niki Lauda are sensational, with both actors accents spot on and personality traits also bang on the money (Lauda was a great driver but also a tactician who was disliked by even his teammates and Hunt is a womanising, alcoholic but funny personality who was very popular).

The characters hold the film together but what makes… Read more
