Daughter of Smoke and Bone: Daughter of Smoke and &hellip by Laini Taylor
5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely take on a genre, 10 Jun 2014
The vampire thing seems almost endless but this is a very, very well considered and written take on that all-too-common theme. There is a genuine plan towing the story along and loveable (if not quite believable) characters.
The Janus Stone: A Ruth Galloway Investigation by Elly Griffiths
5.0 out of 5 stars Another one, 10 Jun 2014
These are good! Well edited, carefully written crime novels around a credible female character who exhibits the sort of strengths and weaknesses that make her feel very real. For the very largest part I find the tumble of the main-character's behaviour so real that it could almost have taken shape as any outcome. But Ruth does, at critical moments, make decisions that are strong and in control.

2.0 out of 5 stars Silly, 10 Jun 2014
Dreadful, silly idea that feels like a rehash of other things. Editing is sloppy and it has the grip of a slimy paw.
