4.0 out of 5 stars Great!, 28 Oct 2003
Don't let my giving this score 'only' four stars fool you, this is a great score. However i dislike giving out 5-Star ratings to anything that is not an absolute work of art. In recent years the only scores i would give a five star ating to would be Howard Shore's beautifully magical score for 'Lord of the Rings,' and John Williams' eye scorching tunes for 'Schindler's List'. Newman has created beautiful scores, and it would be a crime if he never got at least one Oscar for best Scoring, which he deserved for the 2002 Oscar awards.
What i love about Newman's scoring is that it has the ability to be personal, melancholy and rousing at the same time, like his tune in 'American Beauty'… Read more

Well, naturally it's an action movie. Just like the first one. But the first matrix profited from semi-revolutionary effects, the second one has no element of renewal about it.
As in the previous film none of the actors give a great performance (exception of the 'oracle' who i think plays great). And unfortunatly no major actor is really given material which really offers character development.
The stunts are excellent, as in the first movie, but again, like the effectts, have no sense of novelty about them.
And then the fight sequences. Though the basic amount of fight sequences is unchanged, or only very slightly increased, the amount of fighting seems a lot longer… Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Goodmovie, 20 April 2003
Don't let the four stars ot the top of this review decieve you, this is a very solid movie, the five star rating is (in my book) only given to movies which are in every way flawless. The movie is, however, a one of a kind, being thje only gangster movie which in great detail, looks at the rise and the fall of a gangster, and for the most part ignores his 'glory part' in the middle.
The message the movie tells us is about how, in a society, both extreme violence and drugs and theft, can become so acceptable the fade into the background of people's lives.
Goodfellas reaches it's four star level on account of its superb acting, its excellent selection of music, and the excellent… Read more
