I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book at the Cake and Bake Show, and saw Edd demo a couple of recipes.

I made the salted caramel truffles when I got back... and they were delicious. They also went down very well with all my co-workers!

As mentioned in other reviews, the recipes unlike in his other book, are organised by occasion, with a variety of recipes that I would love to try!

Next on my list is the Concorde meringue/mousse.

Not every recipe has a photograph, which is disappointing, but some have more in depth tutorial style photos to accompany the recipe, which makes the more complex recipes much easier to get your head… Read more

I bought this fryer 3 days ago from John Lewis.

I got it out of the box last night to have my first try, though I would start off with something easy like some handcut chips.....

It heated up really quickly, I tested the temperature with an electronic thermometer (at 130C for first fry, 180C for second fry), and it seemed fine.

I was (was being the operative word) impressed with the build quality, and that most of it could just go in the dishwasher. Then, as I was shaking the fries free of excess oil at the end... The handle came off the basket.

To be honest, when I first saw this book (via The Book People), I thought it looked just like yet another one of these books (with the same old recipes inside that are just variants on all the other fairly cheap supermarket shelf fodder cake books) brought out by publishers to jump on the baking bandwagon.

Then I flicked through it.

And promptly bought it.

Yeah, there are a few usual suspects in here, but some that are more unusual. So far I have made the Lemon Squares (topped off with a slice of fig), Ginger and Chilli Caramel Cookies (except I swapped out the chilli to make way for yet more ginger in the caramel), and the Chocolate and Ginger biscuity… Read more
