The New Penguin Russian Course: A Complete Course &hellip by Nicholas J. Brown

This is a great introductory course covering really useful material, from essential starting points up to advanced material which is clearly labelled as extra.
Well laid-out, full of teach-yourself exercises and tools to ensure accuracy.
Recommend some audio material in addition, but this book is a very good singular resource.
The Oxford Russian Grammar and Verbs (Dictionary) by Terence Wade

This is, as expected of the Oxford series, a comprehensive, useful and clear guide.

Recommended as an accompaniment to other learning materials, however, since it is fairly advanced from the start and requires a basic understanding to begin with, which will also be necessary to absorb most of the information. Not a teach yourself book, but a learning aid and reference book.

Worth the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good experience so far, 22 Nov 2009
I am pleased with the quality and value for money of this product.

So far I'm only on level 2 but already have learned useful things from these CDs.

One comment I do have is that it is very much geared towards the traveller/tourist and less for someone who wishes to learn conversational everyday language - but that is, again, only as far as level 2.

A good start if nothing else. Accompanying materials are useful, though the indexes on the back of books 2 and 3 are wrong!
