I wanted this as a replacement for my Sinjimoru stand which has been great over the last 2 years (and looks wonderful) but I knocked off my shelf by mistake when cleaning.

The Belkin stand looks well made and should support the phone well whilst charging (though disappointingly the aluminium had scratches on it when delivered and the package in general had the look and feel of 'having been sold before' - there were no instructions in the pack, for example). Anyway, this is relatively easily overlooked once in place, and it's then I realised the unit was simply not fit for purpose. I have tried to love Windows 8. I installed it around 6 months ago now and I have followed it's bizzare and uncoordinated evolution. All I can say is Microsoft have massively misunderstood what market they are actually in, and have created the Frankenstein of operating systems - the body of one, with a wierd head badly-stitched on top of it.

I was a bit worried befor buying this, and can (I think) see how some of the more negative reviews might have happened. However, from my point of view, this is a stylish product that does the job perfectly on an iPhone 5.

The first thing you need to set this up is a lightning cable. And I found, not just 'any' lightning cable, but an official Apple one. To set it up, your existing, Apple, ligntning cable goes through a two-piece plastic adapter that clamps it in place with the socket pointing upwards.
