Well, the DVD arrived on the doormat yesterday and I sat down to watch it last night. I have to say overall I'm quite disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing the concert footage, and seeing the set with all the changes that happened to it. I remember it so well from that night 2 years ago.
Unfortunately whoever produced the DVD decided that rather than showing concert footage, they'd overlay it with loads of computer generated graphics that look as if they were created with a Sinclair Spectrum twenty years ago, and fractal images. Intersperse that with web cam footage, split screens, mirror images and fade effects from the arc, and you have a quite unwatchable DVD… Read more

Nightlife ~ Pet Shop Boys
The Pet Shop Boys are one of those rare bands that manage to come up with something different, and totally off-beam compared to previous albums, and yet still be The Pet Shop Boys. From the wonderfully sad lyrics of You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk and Vampires, through to the gloriously camp In Denial and New York City Boy, the album never fails to deliver.

Steve Jones' book tries to draw together ideas and lines of evolution from many different sources, and is indeed a thoroughly engaging book. I personally disagreed with some of his reasoning, but that is in part the reason for books such as these - to make you think about the subject, and for that it succeeded.
