I was hooked on this book and finished it in no time. I wish it had been longer but I didn't feel that anything had been missed out from the storyline. It's a magical and sometimes stark tale of good versus evil, creeping across Europe in the Middle Ages. The author brings to life the beliefs, customs and traditions of the time. Learning, reasoning, a balance of beliefs and science shine through and shed light in a superstitious world.

While the story moved through time and doubled back on itself, I still found it easy to follow as the characters were strong and clear. Clever links were made to draw different threads together and keep me intrigued.

I have read all the Lance Armstrong based books with great fascination but this one tops the lot, it gives an in-depth view of the man himself, what makes him tick, his relationships, the way he ticks, his obsesive training regimes, i couldnt put this book down, if your into your biking then read this book, you wont be dissapointed, its a warts and all story of the complex sport of cycling and the most gruelling race in the world. EXCELLENT!!!

I first got into ELR whilst living in the states, i can honestly say out of all 'hit' american sitcoms this stands out a mile, not only is the casting fantastic, there is not one weak character anmongst them. The writing is incredibly funny, just the day to day lives of Ray & his overbearing family has me in stitches, i think the best part of it is they look & interact like a 'normal' family, none of your catwalk queens swanning around in the latest Ralph Lauren here, I think the best character has to be his loutish father Frank, played by the fantastic Peter Boyle, the way he interacts with the rest of the family with his life revolving around sandwiches, anyway enough already, get into it… Read more
