What more can I say other than I enjoyed them so much that I've watched all three episodes twice? Cumberbatch's dark, thrilling Holmes was perfect for the modern setting and the growing relationship between him and Martin Freeman's quietly brave Watson was kept integral to the plot as it always should be. And what great plots they are, although I would expect nothing less from Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss who rarely fail to impress me: They clearly know their Sherlock Holmes and borrow selectively from the original short stories and novels to create something that is new and fresh. This book has had quite a lot of hype directed towards it and for that I was a little cynical at first, since I've known many recommended books fall below expectations. Not to worry though, "The Book Thief" didn't disappoint in the slightest! Zusak's characters have such great depth and personality that from the first page I was completely carried along with Liesal and her experiences as a Book Thief. The wonderfully dark and often perversely kind words of the narrator, Death, also gives the story a wonderful twist of dark humour and his spread of a thousand collected colours fills every page from start to finish.
