The James Joyce Audio Collection by James Joyce

this tape is a bargain... although its almost an hour long the real worth is contained in the two excerpts spoken by Joyce himself... the first Aeolus (from Ulysses) is a little difficult to understand due to its age.. but the Anna Livia Plurabelle reading (from Finnegans Wake) is a joy.. since I bought this I have sat with the book on my lap and the stereo blaring and me trying to chant out loud with it.. quite an intimate experience... my neighbours must think I'm a lunatic with this crazy Irish voice booming from my flat...

well it looks like we can give up on any more double discs in this series... but it's still a fantastic mix... if you're interested in the kind of music that gilles spins.. kicking off with the detroit experiment and then into ski oakenfulls latest project "2 banks of 4" i love this track.. q-tip & co give us poetry..which is the kind of sweet mellow jazzy hip-hop that enriches the soul..later on is the monumental Skyy: can you feel me.. shivers up the spine & fall in love with rosie kay.. my favourite track is wesley music..epic with one of those semi-gospel type vocals..last track seems to be about Gilles himself (Terri Walker & Mos Def) which surely amounts to vanity by including it..but… Read more

Anyone who liked Herberts last album "Bodily Functions" is bound to enjoy this, there is certainly less emphasis on the electronic, but this has given him the scope to expand the jazzy/big band sound, and it's done to fantastic effect here. We have vocal stylings from the legendary New Yorker Arto Lindsay and honey toungued vixen Dani Siciliano amongst others. To accompany this there are 5 sax, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, drums, piano and bass (ripped by dave Green.. get your dbfb banging for this).. The result is ten of the best jazz/electronic crossover tracks to appear for a while. Interesting too is that the album is made accrding to the rules of PCCOM.. which have been drawn up by Matthew… Read more
