I have seen an advance copy of this beautifully illustrated book, rich with explanation, clinical panels and full colour diagrams. An earlier edition won a textbook of the year award from the BMA and this one is sure to follow in ts footsteps. Nice to see plenty of MRI images and spectacular pictures from the "visible human" project.

Certainly worth a read by anyone teaching in higher education. Cathy Small's book is brief, well written and focuses on issues that concern us all in universities, no matter in which country. The approach taken makes a refreshing change from anonymous questionnaires and previous academic research into student attitudes, which all too often fail to see the wider cultural context. Only by doing what the author did could we appreciate the sheer complexity of student life and realise that the behaviours we sometimes see in class reflect structural and policy decisions that may have been made with the best of intentions but because they were decontextualised end up having unforeseen (and very… Read more
