4.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic read, 14 Feb 2000
This book is an absolute hoot. No real out and out jokes, just hysterical situations. Buy it.

If James Hawes is the funniest British novelist writing today (as claimed on the cover) then I'm a Dutchman. His jokes are so bad that you can actually hear tumbleweed rolling across the pages. Garbage, absolute garbage.
Gladly the Cross-eyed Bear (A Matthew Hope novel) by Ed McBain

The opening chapter was unusually long-winded for a McBain novel (fifty pages). Having said that he does manage to combine the three threads of the story quite nicely. It's just we've come to expect a bit more of the great man. One to buy only after you've read all of the 87th Precinct books.
