Henry Purcell - Dido And Aeneas - A Choreographic &hellip DVD ~ Sasha Waltz (Choreography)
5.0 out of 5 stars Forbidden love., 22 Jan 2014
I've been a long time coming to Sasha Waltz but I'm glad I have arrived. What an entertaining way to listen to Purcell, with the added gorgeous costumes and lighting. Both singers and dancers portray Dido and Aeneas and the chorus is also in costume and participates in the dance. We even have a violinist walk on for 'Sailors Away'. Tritons and nereids appear in the Prologue, cavorting underwater in swirling bubbles, manifestng the carefree love to be denied to Dido and Aeneas. These slow, water movements are sustained throughout the ballet,as with Aeneas who opens Act 1 carrying his family away from Troy to safety. Soon he meets Dido and their love is kindled by a boy-cupid dancing in… Read more
CI Vuole Orecchio!: Libro + CD-Audio 2 by Filomena Anzivino
5.0 out of 5 stars Confidence building, 23 Oct 2013
I am very glad to have discovered this course because, although I claim to be at Intermediate Level, I found it still stretches me. I had already used Ci Vuole 1 and like the format, based on really authentic conversations (the speed Italians go!) and situations:Cerco un Lavoro;Un Sondaggio(on fashion); In Banca;Citta o Campagna?ecc. Accompanying exercises in the booklet only appear 'simplistic' (multiple choice, matching up phrases, completing bubbles and tables). They do require you to listen very hard and introduce you to useful colloquialisms and points of grammar (sometimes going beyond the dialogue and tapping in to your general grasp of Italian). Answers to the exercises are provided… Read more
Royal Ballet Yearbook 2013-2014 by Royal Ballet

Another lavish yearbook with superb photography, largely devoted to a review of the last season ,beginning with the superlative Bonelli and Nunez on the cover in Wheeldon's new Aeternum. Inside, displaying beautiful lines, are James Hay and the corps in the same work. There are also two photographs of a pyramid of dancers in flesh-tones in Wheeldon's Fool's Paradise. Hamilton and Soares kiss passionately in Macmillan's rarely seen Las Hermanas. Equally passionate are Rojo and Polunin, reunited for Ashton's Marguerite and Armand. Two photographs show that Liam Scarlett has joined the Infra, Chroma style with his energetic Viscera. He is now exclusively a choreographer and enjoyed great… Read more
