A great play and Mike Leigh at his best. You cant help watching this and thinking 'that's just like so and so'. The characters are true to life, very true to life and I think that is the secret of its enduring success. A most enjoyable play whether you see it on stage or screen and will always rank as a classic alongside the likes of 'Noises Off' and 'Lust In The Dust' from New Theatre Publications.

I saw this play performed by one of our leading local Drama Societies and most enjoyable it was to. It was a very witty play, but as in a lot of Ayckbourn's work it is tinged with melancholy. However it is a great play and has its gretest impact when performed pre-Christmas, then ideally, after Christmas to get the humorous juices flowing again have a look at Absurd Person Singular or Lust In The Dust by New Theatre Publications.

A great book, a great film and a great play. There's a bit of all of us in Billy Liar, especially if you are caught in a mind numbing job. Long may it run and run. It is a modern classic that ranks alongside 'Noises Off' and 'Lust In The Dust' by New Theatre Publications.
