Rubbish. Takes ages to put music on it. Keeps breaking down. A real pain in the aspidistra. Do not buy. Get something else.

Based loosely on the Phil K DIck short story that also was mined for the 'Terminator' series and the less well known 'Trancers' movie, 'Screamers' is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are preyed on by machines. Peter Weller does well and is in almost every shot. The producers really got value for money from the Robocop guy. For what it is, it's a pretty good yarn. Basically, a science fiction road movie...without the road.

For an artist capable of 'Trout Mask Replica' and 'Lick My Decals Off, Baby', this is poor stuff. But for poor stuff, it's not bad. Don's voice is rich and relaxed and the arrangements - although unchallenging - are smooth and sophisticated. Captain Beefheart in the role of lounge lizard. No doubt, it was a simple attempt to make money that fell somewhat short. Despite that, a couple of the songs are quite good: 'The Party Of Special Things To Do' and 'Observatory Crest'. My personal favourite is 'Farther Than We've Gone', which truly is a meandering, romantic classic. Hard to believe but it's almost like Barry White in a mellow trough.
