A consistent feature of Mr Lossau's books is conspiracy and hidden truths. Like some of his other books, on the surface Nightmare reads as a typical thriller set in e'Zulwini (thinly disguised as South Africa), Germany and Italy. The theme of dreams and hypnosis runs consistently throughout the book. However, he pokes fun at many of our most sacred cows: the Catholic Church, the ten industries that have brought mankind to its knees through means of endemic drug-taking, disease-generating eating habits, arms dealing, and political expediency.

On the surface, this book appears to a typical thriller set in South Africa (mainly), China, Germany and the Caribbean. In fact it is quite an atypical social commentary. Mr Lossau has published six books so far and the others deal with fictional stories that are in fact alternative versions of history, the product of his personal recall or memory of the events of ancient history, and indeed pre-history. His books are also liberally laced with romance, and oftentimes racy sex scenes.

The stories, while fictional, in fact are alternative versions of history that are the product of his personal recall or memory of the events of ancient history, and indeed pre-history. This will undoubtedly stretch the credulity of many people who cannot recall so much as what they had for breakfast, but Mr Lossau ranks among that rare breed of person with a personal and accurate recollection of events from the dim past - and where these facts differ from the historical record, that is because history is largely written by the victor.
