This is not a fast-paced, action-packed thriller, but the emotional richness of the story makes it a compelling book. Andrew moves from Kent to Norfolk and struggles to fit in until he forges an alliance with Victor, another of the school's outcasts. Their growing friendship, set against the disappearance of Victor's favourite aeroplane, is a story I returned to again and again as a kid.

I found this book extremely useful when I was launched into teaching Kantian ethics in my PGCE year. It was clear enough to help me understand what I was supposed to be teaching and it gave me some very helpful examples which I could pass on to the students. Highly recommended.
