I couldn't wait to get this book after reading all the hype on it in the media. Not only had the novel almost won the John Creasey Silver Dagger Award for best debut crime novel, but Miller was also a playwright and scriptwriter for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Surely he must know what he is doing. After all he is a professional writer.
However, after a fairly decent start the book faded into one big slow-paced, predictable yawn. I won't document Miller's gaffs regarding the period detail. It has been done elsewhere.
