Tim Vine is a pun genius. This book doesn't let up. Keeps on banging home the gags. My favourite joke: One-armed butlers - they can take it but they can't dish it out. Gold.

What is thre to say. It's a book of pictures of c**k shaped objects and it made me ache with laughter the whole of an otherwise boring train journey from Manchester to London. There's a few in there that I'm gonna cut out and frame. Glorious.

My friend read this recently and pressed it into my hands the other day, raving about how good it was. He was right. I haven't read anything as funny, intelligent or as touching in a good few years.

Maynard is a misanthropic short-film director and dilettane, very much in the Woody Allen mode, whose glum, offbeat take on life make him wonderful and hilarious comany. Jennica's much livelier, an overworked, slightly manic financier who's struggling to find balance.

As you'd imagine from the title, they meet early on and the book then charts the development of their relationship. It does so in a kind of documentary style, using the voices of their many relatives, friends… Read more
