From Within is an unashamedly old fashioned straight-ahead horror story. It pits three mismatched and troubled strangers who are mysteriously drawn to the Borders town of Wakely against supernatural fog, the living dead, denizens of hell and ancient unknowable evils.
If you're a fan of 70s and 80s British horror or of authors like James Herbert and Dennis Wheatley you'll find a lot to like here. The author moves the plot along at a decent speed, introducing each hero in turn before pitting them against the horrors of Wakely. He can turn out a decent sentence too with economical but effective language.

This course is fine for conversation practise and for polishing exsisting skills but not for the complete beginner.
Japanese words are lengthy and daunting and need to be broken down which is sadly not done here.
The female speaker is fairly indistinct which I'm sure is very authentic but does make it hard to learn new vocabulary. Although the CD claims it's easy to learn in your car the recorded pauses are too short to answer even if you do so immediately after the prompt. Car stereos do not have pause buttons!
On the plus side the CD is well indexed with track markers at the start of each logical section and the course covers the basics in a fairly logical manner… Read more
