Northabout: Sailing the Northwest and Northeast Pa&hellip by Jarlath Cunnane
Beautifully produced book and exceptionally well-written book with stunning Arctic photography. The Irishman, sailor and author Jarlath Cunnane first set about building the expedition vessel by the same name, Northabout. Then putting together a crew of adventurous souls and sailed to the Arctic to traverse the Northwest Passage. Once through, they decided to return via the Northeast Passage and so completed a journey none had ever managed. Brilliant account.
Shooting Stars and Flying Fish: Swapping the Board&hellip by Nancy Knudsen
When city girl Nancy Knudsen and husband Ted Nobbs left their high powered jobs in Australia to follow their dream of sailing around the world, they had no idea what was in store. This is not only the story of their five year circumnavigation aboard Blackwattle, but also a chronicle of how their experiences slowly reshaped their perceptions of the world...and of themselves within it.
A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1) by George R. R. Martin
5.0 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant, 29 Sep 2013
I couldn't put it down. I had to keep reading - now on the last of the series so far. The characters are brilliant. The names are so inventive. The writing style is unobtrusive yet contains interesting devices ("Winter is coming" "Much and more" "You know nothing Jon Snow" "The night is dark and full of terrors") like repetitive statements that are not only memorable but instantly evoke an emotion. If only history books were written this way, everyone would know all world history without 'studying' it. It's simply brilliant. And there be dragons!
