I rather enjoyed this book and look forward very much to the next instalment.

The plus points for me are as follows-

it deals with a time in Anglo-Saxon-British history which is often overlooked and ignored, in favour of the incredible story of the truly "Great" Alfred, the rise and rise of Alfred's grandson, and first "King of England/Britain" Athelstan, and of course the later extraordinary times of Harold and William the Conqueror etc.

Serpent Pool, The (Lake District Mysteries) by Martin Edwards
4th in the intriguing Lakeland series, and has all the usual ingredients of the series.

Cold case murder, with echoes and implications that drive the story along in the present day.

The old cold case and the modern developments are intriguing enough as a thriller. The action and investigations played out against a disintegrating relationship, a secret resurrected one, a short lived fling, and a will they-wont they tease involving Hannah and Daniel.

All this is very easy to read, with perhaps a few too many unlikeable characters, and red herrings in this one in such a short thriller.

Enjoyable, but not great.

I really like Apple products and have an I-Pad, I-Phone and I-Pod all of which I love....... but this purchase I really regret.

Why? Overpriced for one, but more importantly it is really temperamental, very unreliable, and only occasionally works. It is a really frustrating piece of kit, I wish I had never bought it.
