Camp without being fun; jokes without laughs; and sex that isn't remotely sexy. Perhaps it's soooooooo post-modern, I just don't get it. The only plus is Blanca Suarez as Ruth, who smoulders gorgeously despite never losing that beautiful dress.
Only one prize for this; "And the Oscar for the most inappropriately titled movie of the year goes to... "I'm so excited!"
Marilyn Monroe as the lead in a romantic comedy - what could possibly go wrong? Sadly, just about everything! Stupid stereotyping and wooden acting make this a struggle. The storyline keeps recalling "Pygmalion" and "The Importance of Being Earnest" but it pales beside them. Monroe sparkles at the centre of it all. But after "My Week with Marilyn" this will be watched as a bit of cinema history, and bizarrely, Michelle Williams (playing the same role) positively dazzles where Monroe merely sparkles.
This is an intriguing, slow burning thriller. The layers of the mystery are gradually removed and the viewer is neatly wrong-footed. This has some of the same appeal as "The Killing" on TV, though the pace is a bit quicker. The wonderful backdrop in the north of Sweden is a bonus.
