Coast Concert + Jazz Ultimate ~ Jack Teagarden / Bobby Hackett
Coast Concert + Jazz Ultimate ~ Jack Teagarden / Bobby Hackett
Without wishing to impugn the other enthusiastic reviewers, I feel I must add a small contribution. In my view the first of the two LPs issued on this CD, Coast Concert, is the greatest New Orleans style recording of the fifties - everyone I have ever played it to over the years have immediately made a purchase.

I first bought it as a 10" LP in 1956 and wore it out: it was then released as a 12"LP with an additional track which had only been released in the States - the thrill of hearing a 'new' track from a session I knew so well was a rare and exciting experience. The Importance Of Being Earnest [DVD] [1952] DVD ~ Michael Redgrave
1.0 out of 5 stars It's that damn sound., 12 April 2014
I would not normally bother to review a film of this quality and reputation, but the sound really is appalling and all copies should have been recalled - I am amazed that anyone who has taken the trouble to write a review to state the obvious about the reputation of this film can fail to acknowledge and warn that it is, in the sound department at least (even the picture is mediocre) a disgrace - and an Oscar Wilde play at that!

Four of these seven albums comprise the Avid set - oh that these guys could get together and organise something they obviously cannot do in a brewery.

I would love to comment on the other three albums but, for obvious reasons, I have not purchased this set. Jazz sales are poor enough anyway without this sort of thing going on.

Suffice to say that Carter is one of the greats of jazz and so the content merits 5 stars. A collective one star is to be had for the companies, living in their own little world when dealing with a commodity which is so precious.
