After reading the reviews on Amazon, and seeing the number of 5* ratings, I was really looking forward to seeing this film. I enjoy historical and period dramas and this has a good cast, sumptuous costumes and scenery. Sadly found the second half just seemed to drift, run out of plot/steam, too long for the material. A real sense of boredom and superficiality came across, or was that the point? I ended up puzzled, asking is this really a very interesting or stimulating story? Personally I found Napoleon with Rod Steiger and Babette's Feast more meaningful.

This is the first book I've read on the subject - which I don't know much about from films or other sources - and found it helpful, stimulating and interesting. Reading the other reviews was helpful too for further reading.
