College Dropout ~ Kanye West
College Dropout ~ Kanye West
Behind the beats for such superstars as Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Talib Kweli and Scarface to name a few, Kanye West has stepped into the spotlight with his debut album; College Dropout. Only knowing of Kanye West strictly as a producer I was highly anticipating his first single "Through The Wire", looking forward to an innovative beat such as Dead Prez's "Hip Hop". However I never suspected he would possess the lyrical finesse that he displays not only on "Through The Wire" but throughout the whole album. Clever wordplay and meaningful lyrics triumph here with his second verse of "Through The Wire" winning him The Source's "Rhyme of the year award" for 2003. Every track is a winner here… Read more

What should I praise this album on first?! For starters this is one of the finest collections of 'back-in-the-day' jungle hits that are bound to trigger nostalgia. Every tune on this CD is a classic in its own right and the way jungle tunes have a way of never boring the listener after countless repeated play stilll amazes me. You'll have this one in your car for ages until your non-junglist mate wants to play his new rap album and you'll have to use a crowbar to wrench the CD out of the player it's been in there so long! I've said enough about the tunes, I should say something about the DJ who mixes this CD; the notorious DJ Hype. DJ Hype completes this CD as he seems to have not just… Read more

There were no suprises when I first listened to this CD and although this can sometimes be a bad thing, in this case it is very good! When buying this expect the same original Teebone style (including the heavy mystic-style warrior samples) that is loved. It also goes without saying that although every track on the album has a familiar feel Teebone has avoided falling into the dangerous garage producer trap of using the same samples and ending up with the same track that has been tweaked numerous times for an album. Teebone's producing is not the only reason to buy the album, teara-unit's (Maxwell D, Godsgift, Sharky P etc) input compliments Teebone's style, So Solid collabarate to make the… Read more
