Magical it's not.
Factually accurate (probably). I found the facts interesting, but I was expecting some decent illustrations, rather than the few tiny photographs and diagrams which were almost unintelligible.
The "Quest for mechanical life" is extended to include real life in Hollywood at the making of "Freaks" and "The wizard of Oz" - interesting facts in themselves, but nothing to do with automata.

I first read this book some thirty odd years ago. It contains very uplifting true life stories which cannot fail to inspire. I later had the great pleasure of meeting the author, and he was every bit as sincere a character in person as he comes across in his book. A real gentleman. I lost my first copy of his book, and so purchased another to use as reference.

This book contains examples of the use of geometry in Architecture, and inspired me to get out my (sixty year old and hardly used) school protractor, ruler and compasses and try out some of the examples for myself.
