This is one of Streisands screen triumphs, in which she stars in, directs and also provides the vocal score for the soundtrack.
A personal tribute to her late father, each scene is beautifully photographed with close attention to detail such as colour and texture and form.
Very clever in the way the vocals are portrayed. When she is thinking to herself as Yentl, the music is in the background, when she is alone her thoughts come out in the form of audible song.
As a director, she does not hog the limelight - as some divas would be tempted to do.
