A very interesting and well researched book written in a manner that can reach all
kinds of readers. It covers all the different aspects of the lives of a whole generation of women who were forced to cope the best they could with tragic circumstances that were not of their own making. As we approach the centenary of World War 1 it is apt that we remember those who were yet more victims of that catastrophe but the achievements of many if them
helped pave the way for the subsequent advances that have taken place in gender equality. My only
criticism would be that I would have liked to see more research being done about how the same generation of women in other countries coped… Read more
