I was really looking forward to getting stuck into a (what was for me) new crime writer. I have to say I was very let down. The actual crime in the book came about halfway - there were no real 'hooks' or suspense to keep me that interested. I found the reality show idea boring and it took me a while to get the characters straight in my head.
I understand the main protaganists have been in other books but I felt Lackberg assumed too much that I knew their background story - the sister depressed because of what? We're not told and then bingo! She goes for a walk and is all ok again? mmmm.
I guessed the whole thing very early on I'm afraid - it was glaringly obvious to me… Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive, 29 Dec 2013
I have to say I skipped a good few paragraphs in this, simply because it got so repetitive. I'm not sure if I was meant to feel any sympathy for the inmates at 'Hotel K' (I didn't) but once the prison had been described then I lost a lot of interest.
I get it, a prison is a horrible place and particularly in Bali it appears. So why do the crime? I understand the author has written a previous book about the prison but focussing on one particular inmate. Maybe I should have read that instead as this book is obviously a 'we made a Lot of money from that book, let's write another' effort in my opinion.

1.0 out of 5 stars Twaddle!, 29 Dec 2013
Yet again a book that is hyped to the Max disappoints. I have to say I very rarely 'laugh out loud' at books but this didn't even raise a snigger for me.
I would love to explain what it's about but frankly, I still have no idea. No idea as to the point, no idea why anyone should care about any of the characters and no idea why I even bothered to finish it.
Absolute waste of time.
