This is a haunting version of the Charlie Chaplin-composed song "Smile", guaranteed to bring a goosebump or three to even the hardiest of folks. This might be the best bang-for-your-buck ratio of any of the pennies you spend this year, and if it doesn't help make her even more of a star than she already is, I'll eat my shoes.

It's the older games of mine I tend to come back to, and HOMAM3 is one of those that finds itself crossing my monitor more often than not. One of the highlights of the golden age of turn-based strategy/combat games, the third entry in the franchise takes everything that just worked from the first two games and fine tunes them into an addictive smorgasbord of fantasy characters, hex-shaped battlefields and just...one...more...turn... The gameplay mechanics are well balanced and it's easy to dive into building your castles and armies - certainly easier than it is to hit the "Save & Quit" button at any rate.

I'd imagine most listeners will run across the name of Stu Hamm in the same way I did, through his work as the bassist on a number of Joe Satriani's albums. It should be clear to anyone who's seen or heard his bass solo spot on Satriani's 'Live In San Francisco' CD/DVD release that Stu has more than sufficient chops to carry his own release, but it's pleasing to learn he also seems to have the songwriting nous to allow his fancy fingerwork to shine.
