Even Silence Has An End: My Six Years of Captivity&hellip by Ingrid Betancourt
4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story, 14 Jan 2012
This is an incredible story. Ingrid Betancourt went through some awful things and by the time she was rescued, she had lost all hope. She had begun to believe she would never be released. I'm not sure that most of us could get through it, but she is a strong character and obviously has (and had) a very strong sense of herself. That was necessary for her survival I think, but it's clear from her book that in any given situation or challenge in captivity, she believes that she was the wisest, the most dignified, the most compassionate, the most noble, the most intelligent and so on and so on. I had heard that this series was like the x-files, but not one episode of fringe really provoked much thought for me. Walter Bishop was an extremely annoying character with a stupid accent. Until I watched the special features I thought that maybe he was northern Irish or Scottish in real life, but no, he's American. Very odd. Also, is there anything he can't do?! Heart surgery? tick. single handedly as well). Autopsies? Tick. He can do those to. Forensic analysis? tick. He's a one man band that guy. Peter Bishop's character is just very sarcastic and bland. He repeats back what his father's character has just told us, but saps any wonder out of it with his cynicial analysis… Read more

I had to laugh at the bit where Annie's at her friend's engagement party being introduced to various strangers, and everytime a spare man strolls past, people assume it's her husband. And then, they get embarrassed on her behalf when she says she doesn't have a husband! She waits patiently for them to get over their embarrassment! Classic.

It's a great film about female relationships and rivalries, but if it has a message (it probably has a few) the one I heard said Don't be lulled into accepting what's not right for you just because your friends are 'in the same boat'.

It makes for a funny film but yet it is kind of sad that your friends are only ever one… Read more
