3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting..........., 25 July 2014
I rather liked this. OK its not a stadium gig but rather more intimate and warmer sounding- almost like E&L playing down your local pub ! Some interesting reworks here and overall worth a listen. I just wish the full trio would put their heads together and do a studio album of new material- they don't have to tour with it and they could make it their last if they so want. I just think they do have more to say. Also when you hear these guys talk they don't really seem aware of the pleasure and influence they have provided down the
years- I am not sure if that is false modesty or shellshock from past `music critics'.
Fantasia: Live in Tokyo [2CD+DVD] ~ Asia
Excellent delivery time, opted for supersaver (3-4 days) and it arrived next day! Great to see the original 4 members playing together again although as has been hinted elsewhere Howe and Palmer sometimes appear to be shoved to the back of the mix on both CD and DVD.If this is the result of some silly band politicking then thats sad - I can imagine what Asia is like without those two and it ain`t great. Howe and Palmer are true giants in their own fields but Wetton and Downes are no duffers that should feel intimidated if that were the case.OK they are all showing their age now-who isn`t but I`ll wager they can play better than the legions of pretenders out there. So overall a damn good… Read more
The Vintage Years of Airfix Box Art by Roy Cross
I would never have purchased this at the full RRP of 35, but at about 20 is fine for a work that does not cover every illustration for the 1964-1974 period covered by this book - tragic that a lot of Roy Cross`s work has been destroyed after being flung into skips! What is magic is that the paintings are generally better produced here than they manifested themselves originally as `mere' packaging.Johnnie Johnson`s Spitfire IX is a personel favourite as it was the second kit I ever owned, the first ( Commonwealth Boomerang) alas is not featured. So for folks of a certain age this is a nostalgic heartwarming book and a beautiful record of some excellent aviation art.
