Woden ~ Julian Cope
2.0 out of 5 stars My only Cope let down., 23 Oct 2013
LOVE Julian Cope..and that means virtually all his stuff, the pop, the utopian/dystopian, the folk, the Brain Donor'd metal via LAMF heavy meditations, and very much his instrumental ambient/kosmiche 'useful music' pieces that send you into theta space (or somewhere) but with a groove in their hearts. Even love ODIN the 72 minute vocal WAH mantra recorded in a cave. Sadly this companion piece....well, it's just so second rate for him, especially the first piece, which is much akin to static hiss. Song for Marion [DVD] [2012] DVD ~ Gemma Arterton
Song for Marion [DVD] [2012] DVD ~ Gemma Arterton
I don't think I ever really understood what sentimental meant until I happened to have the bad luck to see "A Song for Marion" yesterday....It's like watching an emotional autopsy, and ever scene is played as (another) death scene. Belle's past is left almost blank, possibly to tease interest in the character for future novels, but at this stage all characters are left very thin. The plot gallops, but not in an enticing or interesting way, it is in fact so simple, and often pedestrian that you get the sense the author is just splashing possible ideas quickly down on each page, so as not to bother to particularly develop them but to just gallop on regardless. There is some charisma here, but overall a very skimpy and perfunctory affair that offers no real bite, nor even much gristle. As for… Read more
