Stand By Me [DVD] [2000] DVD ~ Wil Wheaton
Stand By Me [DVD] [2000] DVD ~ Wil Wheaton
5.0 out of 5 stars A great movie, 23 Jan 2012
Stand By Me is one of my favourite movies. I only discovered it about a month ago and in that space, have watched it three times. It's a wonderful and timeless story and despite its cheesy name, the film is anything but and is actually very touching. The characters have a vast depth to them and it was acted excellently, despite the fact they were a bunch of kids- Jerry O'Connell was only 11 years old at the time of shooting. Rob Reiner is also a great director.
This movie is a classic and I genuinely recommend it for anyone with good taste...

However, they are unconvincing and almost comical in their… Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Awful narrator's voice., 7 April 2011
I guess one can't deny that Margaret Macmillan has really done her research, and has provided an excellent guide to the Paris Peace Treaty Conference, highlighting all the major issues and problems underlying it and the frustrations felt by many. This is very informative, and I would recommend reading it if you're into this area of history however... I hated her writing style! So arrogant and a I'm-such-a-good-writer feeling to the prose, and ughhh I couldn't stand it! It's not even her technique that's lacking - she manages to balance statistics, facts and trivial stories PERFECTLY to make it into a what should be incredibly interesting point of view, but her smug style just drove me… Read more
