2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed reader, 4 Feb 2013
I got this book on the strength of seeing Josephine Cox on the TV the other morning. I thought it sounded like a very promising story. However, I have to say that I am pretty disappointed with it. Some of the writing (and it's all supposed to be rather serious) actually has made me smile because it sounds so corny. The characters are more like cardboard cut outs. And there is at least one continuity error - the teenage baby sitter Maureen is described as the only daughter of a next door neighbour, and yet 11 pages later she has suddenly acquired a sister called Jan ! 5.0 out of 5 stars Loving it !, 2 Jan 2012
I started this book yesterday as the first of a 2012 challenge - to read 52 books between now and the end of the year ! I'm already half way through and loving it ! Tudor history from a different angle. I think it's well written, and clearly the author has done his research, as already said in another review by his friend ! It makes a great change to the (often) bodice-ripping Tudor yarns that we usually see !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what we need !, 31 Oct 2010
Once we decided we were going to get a puppy, I started doing a whole load of research on dogs - the care and training of them. I came across Jan Fennell's The Dog Listener when it was loaned to me by a good friend. I liked it so much that I got my own copy. It has been a real eye opener, and since we brought our Border Terrier puppy Mungo home three weeks ago, we have been putting into practice her training methods. So far so good !! Thank you Jan !
