Former Lives ~ Benjamin Gibbard
Former Lives ~ Benjamin Gibbard
5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a grower, 1 April 2013
I've been a Death Cab fan for nearly 10 years now, and although I do like their last albums for me they never quite reached the heights of Transatlanticism. Ben Gibbard previous solo offering, under the name "All-Time Quaterback" was a sign of things to come from a very talented songwriter.
So when I first listened to former lives I was actually a bit disappointed, if not to say quite a lot. I thought it was ok-ish/good but not that great, and the song "Duncan" seemed so out of place on the album that I skipped it everytime. I thought it was one of the worst songs Ben had ever written.
It's now been over 5 months since the release date, and it's safe to say that I… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific new EP!, 14 Mar 2011
I've been waiting for a new release by the Velvet Teen for a little while now, and reading about the personal tragedy the band faced, the delay is more than understandable. Now a 4-piece band, they sound as dynamic as ever, with some serious musicianship and melodies, and some real kick-ass tunes. The title track is just fantastic while "Fixing A Faucet" is simply ferocious.

The only crying shame is there's only four tracks and not enough yet for a full LP. Still, at that price it's still a bargain.

As good as anything they've done before, if not better, I can't recommend it enough! Brilliant.

Let's keep it simple: Farm is tight, energetic, quite loud and just full of superb tunes. To believe that those guys are well in their 40's just puzzles me, as this sounds as fresh as Bug and as precise as Beyond. It sounds like the guys have finally found some peace in their own lives and here they're just having a blast, taking us along on a beautiful rocking ride. The melodies are right down superb on the entire album and both J's and Lou's songs are as strong as ever.

I have been a Dinosaur fan for a good 15 years and owning all their previous album I can safely say this is probably their best. It's THAT good.

As Murph said in a recent interview, this album is… Read more
