4.0 out of 5 stars Disco, Soul or Funk?, 17 April 2014
This is either a 4 star, 5 star or like me somewhere in between, dependant on your point of view. As with most vinyl masterpieces CDs the lines between Disco, soul and funk are blurred, but I am reviewing this as a soul lover. In the past the masterpiece CDs series have generally been geared towards the electro funky disco, with only 2 or three tracks that could be classed as soul or funk. So why did I buy vol 16. Well first of all there are 5 tracks that I like being the very hard to get Black, White and co and McFadden and Whitehead. And the best for me Bar-Kay's, The Dazz Band and Conway and Temple all of which should have been top 20 hits in the 80's. Then there are four tracks that are… Read more

Having bought the DJ copies of the Real Side 2008/2009 and 2009/2010, I was interested to see what the soul on the real side vol 1 had to offer, as their single collections have long been sought. I was not disappointed as this is a cd full of quality 70's soul, which varies from Northern to Modern Soul. It should be noted however that some of these tracks are available on other CDs and some tracks are on the aforementioned CDs. So why 5 stars? Well the Real side 2008-2010 CDs are not generally available, and the number of tracks which are not on other CDs makes Soul on the Real Side well worth the price tag. The cd also includes the new single Larry Saunders - on the real side which will… Read more

Soul Togetherness 2002 ~ Nicolas Bearde
I was amazed to find that no one had reviewed this cd, as it has to be one of the best soul compilations of all time, and a must for all soul lovers.
Soul Togetherness CDs are renowned in the soul community as being one of the best series to buy and have been produced for 14 years (2000 to 2013). However of late they have started to use tracks that are from the previous year, and some of the CDs have not really been to expansion records very high standard. This cd has songs from the 70's right up to 2002, so has the contrast a lot of compilations lack.
Soul Togetherness 2002 is from a time when Ralph Tee and Richard Searling dug into their record collection to produce a cd that… Read more
