Tchaikovsky: Romeo & Juliet, Francesca da Rimini ~ Eduard Beinum
3.0 out of 5 stars Classic performance, 22 April 2013
This CD includes a re-mastered digital version of the Eduard Van Beinum/ London Philharmonic brilliant interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. I have the original vinyl recording in my collection and wanted to update to a CD version.
I have to say I was a little disappointed on first playing the CD, for the recording has not cleaned up well from the original analogue recording and there remains quite a lot of audible scratching and hissing. On reflection, I am not that disappointed, for the original mono recording was made nearly 60 years ago and it is a lot to ask for a digital version of the quality we would expect from a modern recording. 1.0 out of 5 stars British sniper, 25 Mar 2013
This very short book purports to be about a sniper in France. It actually is a very short account of the military career of one of the author.s relatives in the first world war, interspersed with bits and pieces about the Battle of Loos and the history of the Buffs. This account is tenuously linked to the issue of sniping in that war. There is no evidence presented that the subject of the book was ever a sniper, or underwent sniper training, with the only accounts of sniping incidents being drawn from other sources. Overall, I thought this was a poorly written piece of work,, and a great disappointment. If you are interested in the subject of sniping in this war, I would recommend the… Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Wobbling holder, 13 Jan 2011
This item promised much, but failed to deliver. This is because the holder is not straight (at least the one I received). The deflection is very slight (about .5mm), but, given the length of the holder, the effect is magnified, i.e. there is a pronounced wobble when fixed in an electric driver, and this makes it very difficult to drive screws. Whether the problem is due to poor quality control in manufacturing or to damage in transit due to the poor way it was packaged , I do not know. While the item was relatively inexpensive and thus the problem is not a big disaster, I would advise anyone thinking of buying such a item to only do so in a shop where it can be tested.
