Kowa 8x30 YF Series Porro Prism Binoculars by Kowa
4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised., 9 July 2014
I bought these to replace an old pair of 8x30s. They have a lovely clear, bright image with a great field of view and no obvious distortion or colour aberration. They got salty on a high-speed sea-life spotting boat trip and it was great to be able to rinse them under the tap afterwards.

Someone has already pointed out in a previous comment that rated them "best low-cost binocular" for 2012. Since then, they won the 2013 too.

Ah yes, the lens caps. Fiddly and insecure. I left mine behind and just used the neoprene case. I did not see anyone else using lens caps on their binoculars either but if it's a big deal to you, better look elsewhere.

On the subject of washing, I have only washed it once so far, but I have bamboo mix running shorts which are still going strong after 3 years. I'm very careful to use a cool, gentle wash with non-bio detergent and no fabric conditioner. It is not the… Read more

I've been using Office 2007 (home and student) for years but I particularly wanted to try Outlook for its contact management and scheduling capabilities.

On installation it asked me to choose a theme (somewhat bizarre but I chose "underwater", which turned out to be appropriate). Then it asked me to log in with my Microsoft ID, which I did. So far so good. I started Outlook, but the People and Calendar sections were empty with no obvious way to synchronize with those in my Microsoft account. Maybe I was being na´ve but Windows Live Mail, the web interface, my Windows 8 phone and the People and Calendar apps on Windows 8.1 all do this automatically, so that my contacts… Read more
