If buying this unseen, the first thing of note is that this is not a 'how to do it' book. I live in a small space and my book collection is really small, but my e-book collection is significant, so for me, books have to work hard to get onto my 'physical bookshelf' rather than my 'virtual bookshelf' and this book does exactly that.

From the moment that I picked it up in the book shop, I was captivated. It is heavily illustrated with vibrant and warm African scenes. The artwork is very competent, detailed but loose enough to be a beautiful alternative to a book of photographs on a similar african story. The Duel series is a firm favourite of mine and I have bought most of the tank related books. Based on the titles of the books, the buyer can hope to expect that the focus will firmly be on the two vehicles named and hopefully be able to read of detailed incidents of their performance in the same battle and if not, then at least how they compared in similar actions. I have noticed that some of the Duel titles can wander away from the core subject at times and in such slim volumes, this can be quite a distraction.

I bought this book as a Kindle download for the new paper white model. It works fine on the kindle, especially if read in landscape mode as many of the pictures are already in landscape mode.Photo contrast is lower than on my iPad, where the everything looks very good, however, i read the whole thing on the Kindle without issue.

The book is superb in giving some real insight into the fact that tank v tank is not just about specification, but a whole host of other factors and attention is drawn to those factors that reduced some of the fighting potential of the Panther and also to why the sherman had some not so obvious advantages (such as fewer of them being stuck in workshops),… Read more
