In 1877 the First ashes match was recognised, as an event in cricket sporting history and the matches continued over the years every 18 months. In 1932-33 the latest five match series took place, Douglas Jardine england captain. Bill Woodfull australian captain, Mr jardine employed bowling (bodyline) tactics. That were considered controversial to say the least, aimed at stopping australian batsman Donald George Bradman. Who had taken england and the counties teams apart, scoring 2960 runs at an average of 98.66.

Now for me this is, a great sporting history. From their first match in 1877, to the mock obituary five years later when a young journalist. Reginald shirley brooks, wrote for the Sporting Times.

These famous words "In affectionate rememberance of English Cricket, which died at the oval on 29th august 1882 deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and aqaintances R.I.P N.B.-The body will be cremated and the ashes taken to australia". This was the first test match england had lost to aussies on home soil.
