An intriguing story which weaves together past and present. The inserts from the fifteenth century court rolls reflect old and new crimes which turn out to be surprisingly similar. A good read - particularly if you like medieval social history.

Yes, I could see the end coming a mile off but that did not detract from my absolute pleasure at listening to this story in my car. I would arrive at work with a smile on my face. I particularly loved the descriptions of vintage clothes and the glimpse into life in The Village. Thank you.
I also thought the fleeting references to the reaction to 9/11 were extremely well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine period piece, 24 Sep 2013
I found this book, set in February 1927, a fine, period piece, like best porcelain. Authentic and stylish I particularly enjoyed the echoes of the Second Boer War, the description of the manners and customs of the time. It took me straight to the period between the two wars, the scars of the Great War and the determination to enjoy life. Thank you.
