Looper is the third film from director Rian Johnson and like his previous two movies, Brick, and Brothers Bloom, this one stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt. While Johnson's past movies were low budget and pretty indie in their sensibilities Gordon-Levitt's post-Inception increased star status and the inclusion of old blockbuster hand Bruce Willis allowed for greater budget and scale here.

In the name of full disclosure, I am not a fan of Quentin Tarantino or his work. However, after being told by many people that I should give his newer (read anything since about the year 2000) stuff a chance I settled down to watch Django Unchained.

Although styled as a Western the action takes place in the Deep South a few years before the beginning of the American Civil War. The titular Django starts out as a slave in a chain gang before being rescued and freed by dentist turned bounty hunter Dr King Schultz who needs him to identify quarry that he is looking to bring in more dead than alive.
