2.0 out of 5 stars Big let down, 14 Jan 2010
I eagerly watched this film, hoping for a dark romance. Well it is dark, but in a terribly predictable way. Surely I'm not the only one who 'guessed' the twist very early on. Once we got through her side of the story, the rest of it was obvious and unnecessary. Bar the 'sculpture' she made and the pill picture, at no point did I feel anything but boredom.

I didn't warm to his character, and I didn't believe hers. A shame, but there are plenty of brilliant French films out there, so Sur à l'après.

Gia is not a film for the faint hearted, it features the pain of a drug fueled existence and a life of loneliness.

For those willing to watch from beginning to end will share all the emotion of Gia (played brilliantly by Angelina Jolie)

The film is partly set out as documentary featuring characters surrounding Gias short life. Their varied opinions and thoughts help to sculpture Gia as a person as you watch her journey unfold.

I do recommend this film to Angelina Jolie fans but also anyone interested in a story about strength. Gia Marie Curangi was a real person and what from what I've read of this fascinating womans true struggle this depiction of her life… Read more

I have read all of the Beebo Brinker chronicals and found an amazing story with twists behind each. Journey to a Woman is no exception, I feared that the idea of bringing Beth back and possibly reuniting her with first love Laura, would cheapen the last books.
But I need not have feared because the approach that Bannon takes is far from cliched and keeps everything fresh.
I also enjoyed the different focus of which character we were seeing the majority or the 'thoughts' view point from. Laura has been used in several of Bannons books, and although a much loved character she can fall into the catagory or being 'too timid', compared to Beebo anyway. Beth is a more middle grounded… Read more
