One recalls the fusion movement of the 70s. Then it was rock that jazz musicians tried to merge with their music. The result; small amounts of interesting music, large amounts of self-indulgent tripe, and the odd snippet that is so strange that it's plainly the result of a musicians drive getting ahead of their taste for a few moments.
The same vibe inhabits this recording, with the cosmetic difference that this time it's folk and celtic strains that have been tacked onto jazz - the result is as predicted.
Oh, there are a few nice moments, the first half of "Big Mon" and "Puffy" swing whilst having very very light dosings of country layered on top. That works. After a while… Read more
